    High School Friends
    « on: February 04, 2016, 01:55:53 pm »
One of my friends who I was close to high school is now getting divorced.

We really haven't talked much or seen each other more than 5 times in 15 years.   We are friends on facebook so I get to hear her brag about her new job and post pictures of the same grainy pose "selfie" same expression, save camera view.  Hooray.  You have a tiny dog, good for you.  Thanks for the endless dog selfies.

Since she is now getting divorced, she has came to visit twice from DC.

First time I bit the bullet and wasted an evening having dinner with her.   She is okay but I feel like I don't want to hang out.  It was expensive, and she wanted "girls only." I don't really know her anymore.  She (for example) brought her tiny dog with her on the last visit and left me a message Monday morning asking if I could take the dog for Monday because she had plans all day.  WTF.

Now she is back again and wants to go to dinner.  I feel like I did my duty already this year.  Friendships don't last a lifetime based on facebook and a very rare visit.  Since accepting her dinner invite on google calendar, she has sent me 3 updates to the dinner time in ONE fucking day.

I guess I just don't really want to be friends anymore.  Is that normal?  I could care less about meeting for dinner.  Other than pretending I am constantly busy, I feel stuck.

Is she relocating back to San Diego from D.C., or is she just trying to meet up with you when she is in town? I would think that since she is going through a divorce, she is trying to reconnect with friends she feels she may have "left behind," or "lost contact with" over the years. If you don't want to hang out with her, just say you're busy. Unless she is dense, she'll get the hint. Just because you were friends with her once upon a time, doesn't mean things haven't changed, and There is no excuse for her obligating you with her problems or animals.

Seems like most married people abandon their friendships, and suffocate their spouses with their social needs.  When come divorce time, all the friends you abandoned have moved on.

But you shouldnt feel obligated to hang out with someone you no longer feel a connection with. Not all friendships become lifelong.

Judging from your lack of interest in seeing her again, I would nip it in the bud and stop wasting each others time. She will live and go latch on to someone else

I also have some HS pals, who are miserable at home, and keep calling me to hang out at boring events. One of them only likes going to do things that are free (street fests, free concerts, .25c beer nights). Its a shame

No she is just visiting from DC... but i don't really have any interest in her as a friend anymore.  Since she has only visited 2 times in the last five years, its hard to get out of her being free for 4 days.  I can't exactly say I am booked solid every day.   Come to think of it, I don't think she has ever asked me a question about my job or what I do.  She talks about herself.

I have a whole bunch of friends who have gotten DUIs that will only go out "if you drive" or if "they can walk there (usually their shit hole dive bar)."  Always on their terms.  4 friends like that.

I think that is fucking lame.  You can pay $8 for a fucking Uber and stop asking me to drive or insisting we go to the same lame place every time.

And then there's my friends with new kids.

That pretty much is the nail in the coffin.  If we maintained a friendship after both being married, its a "possible friendship."  2 friends have to become 4 friends.  Usually it is strained.

But you want to bring your kids along?  Want to send me kid pics and post em every day on facebook?  Invite me to their 1st birthday party?   (Why the fuck would they even need a party?)  Use your kid as a last minute excuse when you flake?  Fuck you.  I distance myself.

Kids are the worst. The only people that should be invited to a kids party is family and very close friends. Your situation sounds like she is more of an acquaintance than a friend. I agree with Slappy, some people get into relationships and forget about their friends, for those people, I say good luck, and don't comeback when shit goes south. Real friends never lose touch with you over the years.

Eh, I've been there; hanging out with a 'friend' that I no longer have anything in common with. I agree with Silver, don't feel obligated, or my the visit short, say "I can meet you for a drink for an hour, but then I have an appointment to get to."

You never know if you (or me) might be that person who just needs a little social interaction, to see someone familiar and talk for a bit. It's good karma to just deal for a while with that person. But don't make too big of a sacrifice of your time.

she just sent me a FB invite to go out clubbing with her and her sister after we eat.  She is 40..  I am 38.  Not going to a fucking club. Clicked "can't make it" we are not going back in time to before she married that dude.

btw, her ex-husband looks like her.  They look like siblings.  gross

I just deleted another facebook "friend" for dressing up like a sexy referee because it is super bowl Sunday.  I don't need to see this kind of stupid.

Sounds like our perve is growing up and leaving the old silly party life behind. Very cool. I'm the same way: "Been there. Done that." Time to move on.

Hardened?  I don't want to see a "woman" in her late 30's dressing like a slutty referee because it's Superbowl.  It makes me think she is a slut and an idiot and I don't need to be friends with slutty idiots.  I am barely friends with Lisa.

Dog Anus got married.  Here is a pic....

Remember that other chick Wade was trying to cheat on me with?  The one with the "stick it in my ass" pictures who was trying to be a model:?

I fucking saw her on TV yesterday... in a commercial for some trade college.

She was dressed up in scrubs saying "Thank you, Concord"
