    don't shoot the messenger
    « on: December 17, 2015, 04:23:57 pm »
3 months ago I found out my friend/acquaintance's boyfriend was also sleeping with another woman and I told her.  She called the other woman who denied it and she went back to sleeping with him.  Since that, she has been standoffish towards me but has demanded that I tell her if I hear he is sleeping around again.   Yes, once again he is sleeping with the same woman as he was before, I know her too.  But I already told her he is a cheater and I don't want to be involved.  She hasn't been nice to me since I told her the first time.

Another one - I am working on a restaurant with a 200k budget.  Initilly we were told that we would not need an ADA lift.  After consulting numerous city planners, they are demanding that we install a lift to the second floor.  I called around and a lift that large is 37K.   The owner has been absolutely clear that he does not want a lift, but they won't permit the project without it.  I have to tell him- and soon - that he must install a lift.  He is going to go apeshit on me.  I don't know how to break it to him without making him incredibly angry with me, even though it is not my fault.   How can I tell him?

Just be blunt with him, and tell him you tried every way to not use a lift, but in order to get the permit, he absolutely must get the lift. There is no way around it, it's not your call, you and he have to play by the rules. If he gets pissed off at you, remind him, that you didn't make the rule, you just have to follow them.

Thanks Gooey.  I will post what happens.  He might try to say I didn't do enough research, but the city officials are inconsistent with their opinions of when you need a lift.

I told him about the wheelchair lift.  i did some research and found one for 18k instead of 35k.

He went batshit about it on the phone for about 15 minutes.  I kept telling him that he was yelling at the wrong person and that I'd done everything I could to try to change the outcome, and at least we didn't have to provide fire sprinklers.  (not yet anyway)  He keeps insisting that I contact the federal ADA group and they will "put me in touch with an ADA lawyer for free"

Later he sent me a text that said "That's okay Denise put the lift in"

I really hate stories of rich bastards who shit out $25k in casino's/bars, but are super frugal and outright anti-social because they have to spend $21k for a humanitarian cause that will allow disabled people to come spend money at their establishment

The truth is, handicapped people are not big spenders, they are usually consumed with more pressing money matters..yet you have to have a law to remind you you are human

Ive had a few disabled people come drop off their PC's and they took the bus to get here..I was mortified..i usually personally drop their system back off at their home, and set it up for them

disgusting how this guy values $21k more than people

I remodeled an office and had two bathrooms that were not ADA compliant, but were grandfathered. I wanted to make one of the bathrooms bigger with a 36 inch door v. a 32 inch door with a hallway that was 5 feet long and 36 inches wide. I wanted to remove the hallway and have the 36 inch door right at the bathroom giving my ONE wheelchair bound client, who never comes past the front door, a place to use the bathroom that was MUCH more roomier than the grandfathered one.

Since I was modifying an existing grandfathered bathroom, I was going to have to move one wall FOUR fucking inches to create a 5 foot radial turn inside the bathroom.  Since all the plumbing and sewer for the entire office ran thru that wall, it was going to cost about 5 grand to move the wall, relocate the plumbing, bust up concrete, repour concrete, etc.

I told the building inspector I wasn't going to do that. The mods I was making were improving the place and making it bigger.  He didn't care and I wasn't spending the cash.

                  The ADA is retarded.

The ADA laws are pretty extreme.  For example did you know you need 24" clear on the pull handle side of the wall by a door per the ADA law?  12 inches clear is required on the push side.

The size of the individual single stall ADA restrooms are becoming huge as of 2013.  Why can't they have a unisex restroom?

This client wastes money on all kinds of things but is suddenly strapped when the lift became required.

I'll agree with that, but only because I wanna be your friend so your people don't pull in Montreal what you pulled in Brussels and Paris.
